The AQST conference held on Sunday 29 June was an opportunity to take stock of the state of the waters of Lake Varese. During the conference, it was learned that the state of the lake was found to be optimal in all the points touched by the waters, but the decision to guarantee bathing is up to the municipal administrations that will have to implement all possible strategies to make their beach suitable for those who want to bathe.

Even for the summer of 2025 , the situation of the Gavirate lakeside is not favorable for a bathing season: «This year we have concentrated on priority interventions for the arrangement of the lakeside - explains the deputy mayor Roberto Zocchi - We have redone the entrance to the pedestrian area, but we also had to face the problem of flooding that has continued for some time».

THE FLOODED LAKE

The lake remained above normal levels until about a month and a half ago , complicating the planned interventions: «We built a temporary gravel walkway to ensure passage along the cycle path — continues Zocchi — and, as soon as the water receded, we dedicated ourselves to fixing the springs».

For this reason, the possibility of preparing an equipped area for bathing was excluded from the very beginning : «We already knew that, in these conditions, it would not have been possible to guarantee the minimum necessary services, even for a conscious choice - he concludes -. It would not have made sense to equip the area for a few weeks, without the adequate conditions and without having completed the structural interventions that we consider a priority for the lakeside».

GAVIRATE LAKESIDE HAS DIFFERENT POTENTIAL

«The lakeside of Gavirate, compared to other areas of Lake Varese, does not lend itself to a real seaside vocation, just think of Bodio Lomnago, which can count on a natural beach, with a conformation more suitable for bathing».

According to Deputy Mayor Zocchi, the Gavirate bank still has potential, but a different path is needed: «We believe that this area should be enhanced in another way, focusing on initiatives and interventions that enhance its characteristics, without forcing a destination of use that is not very compatible with the current conformation».

In any case, even if we wanted to identify a small bathing area, the times and conditions for this year do not allow it: «The area suitable for bathing would still be limited and would require preparatory works, both from an environmental and structural point of view, which it was not possible to carry out this year».
